Dad and a Mum: Two parents share their stories of hope
About
This webinar features two parents who supported their daughter through their eating disorder.Rodney’s daughter was diagnosed with an eating disorder at fourteen years old and underwent Family Based Treatment (FBT). An incredibly supportive father, Rodney took nine months off work to support her treatment, including supervising all school meals during that time.
Rodney is proud to say his daughter has recovered and is studying counselling. Rodney wants other dads and male carers to know that they have a place in the treatment team and recovery. Rodney will share his experience of eating disorder treatment, including navigating refeeding, and how he looked after his own mental health and marriage.
Our second parent, Linda, will share how her daughter was diagnosed at the age of fourteen. As a clinical psychologist herself, Linda felt she ‘should’ have known better, but the eating disorder fooled her. Linda’s daughter struggled to find a psychologist with the right ‘fit’, and therefore was supported by a dietitian, recovery coach, GP, and the support received by EDFA programs. Linda’s daughter is doing well and is on a three-month student exchange in Germany. While not fully recovered and still experiencing body image issues and some disordered eating behaviours around food, she is well enough to be out there in the world, living her best life.
EDFA will moderate a Q&A with Rodney and Linda from 9:00-9:15pm.
