Dingo Presents Alexander Beets' Big Sounds
About
Come and celebrate Halloween with Dingo’s double-bill featuring Fiona Burnett Band, and Dutch saxophonist and festival director Alexander Beets, withan all-star cast from the Netherlands. The evening begins at 7:30pm in the Fringe Common Rooms at Trades Hall.
Alexander will be familiar to Dingo regulars as the artistic director of Amersfoort World Jazz Festival and chairman of the World Jazz Network. As one of Europe’s most prominent jazz saxophonists, he has performed with big bands and groups worldwide, including the Takeshi Band and Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Alexander is also a featured performer in the New York Round Midnight Orchestra, a vocal tribute to the swing era, and leads the Alexander Beets Legends Program, where he pays homage to icons like King Curtis, Stanley Turrentine and Hank Mobley.
Alexander’s Big Sounds project delivers a mix of hard-bop, soul jazz and original compositions. Deeply rooted in the swing tradition, the band combines old-school grooves with a modern edge, creating a sound full of energy, interplay and expressive storytelling.
Sporting a lineup of latest and greatest musicians, he is joined by Miles Davis Institute-acknowledged trumpeter Ellister van der Molen, his brother Marius Beets on bass, and two Dutch prodigies in the form of drummer Mitchell Damen and powerhouse pianist Francisco Rodrigues.
Joining the bill is the Fiona Burnett Band, an exciting ensemble project featuring virtuosic and lyrical soloists performing contemporary popular music, jazz standards and original works. Based on Burnett’s album Imagine (ABC Jazz), the band pays tribute to many well-known songs from the cannon of popular music through reimagined interpretations of familiar melodies, bringing together the dynamic line up of Fiona Burnett saxophone, Mina Yu on Piano, Christopher Hale on Bass and Sydney-based Rease Cameron on drums.
Our thanks to our event partners and supporters: Perth International Jazz Festival, Performing Arts Fund NL, World Jazz Network, Musicians Paradise, The Music Place and Red Rock Drums Australia.
