CHS Local History Lectures 18th October 1.30pm-3.30pm
About
On Saturday 18 October 2025, we are excited to present two very diverse and engaging Lectures at the Cairns Historical Society. The first paper, is by Cairns Historical Society Exhibitions Curator Sarah Morgan with Han Mak Belong Tumbuna: Made by the Hands of the Ancestors. This presentation takes you on a curatorial journey at the Cairns Museum as Sarah takes you through the planning and curatorial process of putting on this exciting exhibition and her engagement with the Cairns Papua New Guinea community. Our second speaker is the much lauded Carole Hardingham with her presentation “Ways to die on the Chillagoe Field”. Carole’s talk continues the themes of her previous talks on far north Queensland graveyards, digging up the stories behind some of the gravestones in the Chillagoe Mineral Field’s cemeteries.Come join us and relax on the veranda among friends for afternoon tea.
