Youth Mental Health First Aid
This Youth Mental Health First Aid course equips adults who teach, care for and support young people, with the skills and confidence needed to recognise and respond to a young person experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.
Aims
- Provide an overview of mental illnesses, risk factors, prevalence and impact
- Gain an in-depth understanding of how to assist adolescents who may be experiencing a mental health problem or crisis, until appropriate professional help is received, using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan
Learning Outcomes
- Have increased awareness of the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in adolescents
- Be able to recognise and respond to an emerging and worsening mental health problem and understand the interventions and supports available, including how to approach a young person that you are concerned about
- Be able to apply mental health first aid in a range of crisis situations
- Be eligible to become an accredited Mental Health First Aider, upon completion of an online assessment, following the course

Format
Self-paced online learning followed by an interactive webinar via Microsoft Teams
Includes a presentation, question-and-answer sessions, breakout rooms and opportunities to share your experiences with fellow teachers around the world.
This session is livestream only and will not be recorded.
Details of how to join the session will be sent in the lead up to the session.
Required preparation
Enrolment with Bare Wellbeing Services is required following registration of the course to gain access to the online learning content.
The link to enrol will be sent to registered participants approximately 3 weeks prior.
Enrolment must be completed within 3 days of receiving the link to allow time for access to be granted and resources posted where requested.
The online learning content must be completed no later than 3 days prior to the interactive webinar. Please allow approximately 5-6 hours to complete.
