'Interdependence' as a “life-raft” in Therapy
WHAT: Join us for this moving clinical case presentation with with Bernadette Fitzgerald, a highly experienced Registered Clinical Counsellor with PACFA and a member of a Comprehensive DBT team.In this case presentation, we get to know a client who struggled with BPD, ADHD, and substance abuse. Her symptoms temporarily settled during 14 months of DBT, only to be thrown into turbulence after an abusive relationship and assault by a stranger. The client had also recently been diagnosed with autism and this added to the challenges in the therapeutic relationship. The client needed more than what DBT and mindfulness skills offered in order to stabilise her condition. The Buddhist concept and practical application of “Interdependence” made explicit during therapy became a “life-raft” and a tool of transition. The case study explores the preparation involved in preparing the client to enter a new phase of therapy.
