Most relatively modern machines are able to do free motion stitching but to be sure you can google your machine model type and ask if it's able to do it. Check that you can lower the feed dogs on your machine. That is a necessary step for free motion stitching.
You will also need: a free motion foot for your sewing machine. This may be referred to as an embroidery foot/darning foot. Most mid-price/better machines come with one but if it doesn’t, you can purchase from your sewing machine dealer.
- Small embroidery scissors.
- Thread for your machine…even better a range of thread colours/multi coloured threads
- An embroidery hoop 15-20 diameter
- Pins & hand sewing needles
- a wooden skewer
