The Suitcase Series is Malthouse Theatre’s award-winning participatory program for Year 9 and 10 students. Play includes: physical theatre ,explosions and zombie attacks
Year 9/10 Musical Theatre presents the opening scenes of Heathers the Musical
The play is a dark comedy based on the 1989 film. It explores high school popularity , bullying and the pressures to fit in, using satire and heightened theatricality. The opening scenes introduce the intense social hierarchy at Westerberg High and the arrival of the trio of powerful Heathers.
Bullying and social exclusion is conveyed through song lyrics, character insults. Some words or phrases are suggestive and demeaning. The material is satirical and critiques the toxic high school culture and does not endorse it. Some stage combat and stylized movement is used to form the mood and dramatic tension.
