A Day on the Deck for Derrick (SOLD OUT)
FUNDRAISER TO SUPPORT ONE OF OUR KEY PEOPLE IN ZAMBIA TO CONTINUE DIGNITY ZAMBIA'S LEGACY
The Event:
Sue Redman and Becky Blake invite you to a special exclusive event hosted by Becky at her private Marino home, on a cliff overlooking the spectacular sea and gully.
Guests will be treated to punch on arrival and a special gift, followed by cocktail style food and special entertainment by Becky and her daughter Chelsea with games and a raffle (bring cash or card tap facility available on the day).
**Please bring a bottle or two of your favourite wine/champagne for your own pleasure.
Venue is off the Cove Road at Marino. Exact address will be released to attendees upon confirmation of ticket purchase.
The Story:
We are supporting Derrick Phirri in this fundraiser to enable his medical studies while he, in return, is instrumental in supporting our Dignity Zambia hospital stage three build.
Sandy Clark started her charity, Dignity Zambia, to build a women's and children's hospital in the remote province of Nalolo in African Zambia in 2013. Sue Redman and Becky Blake have been her supporters for the journey, doing their part in fundraising for the project which involved building roads, sinking wells and the physical build of two hospital wing builds, which is about to become three.
In May, 2025, Sandy, Sue, Becky, Becky's daughter Chelsea and Sue's son Lawrence travelled to Zambia to see the hospital and witness how many lives it has changed to not only women and babies, but the entire community surrounding the hospital. Miraculously not a woman has been lost in the time the hospital has been operational; not a small feat. We are saving and changing lives.
The final stage three build of the hospital is currently underway, which is to house visiting mentors and specialist doctors to train staff so the hospital is able to offer more services. A man pivotal to our build is Derrick Phirri, who was administrator at the hospital and helped oversee the first two buildings. Derrick literally knows the inner workings of the hospital; every brick, every worker, the community.
Derrick is currently undertaking his studies to become a fully qualified doctor. On top of his studies, he has vowed to continue to oversee crucial development in the hospital, taking his own time and travel distances to do so.
Sue and Becky were introduced to Derrick for the first time in May on our visit to Zambia. We were taken by his humble nature, his gentle intelligence and his dedication to our project. Derrick is an impressive man who is changing Zambia's future.
When we were in Zambia in May, Derrick pledged to keep helping Dignity Zambia on the ground and in return we would fundraise through Dignity Zambia to pay for his university studies, around $2000 per year for 5-6 years. Other generous donors have covered his first year and we are hoping to cover his fees in 2026.
This fundraiser will support not only Derrick, but the hospital and the entire Nalolo community. We would love to give Derrick the support of our beautiful community so he can support his and we would love to see your smiling faces at our event.
