Hamayan Shul – Code of Conduct
Privacy and Confidentiality
Members and visitors must not share or distribute private or sensitive information about Hamayan Shul, its members, staff, or operations without explicit permission. This includes (but is not limited to) personal contact details, photographs, internal communications, and matters discussed in confidence.
Membership Conditions
Membership at Hamayan Shul is a privilege. Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct or other shul policies may result in withdrawal of membership with no refund and possible banning from the premises and events. Serious breaches, especially those involving safety or confidentiality, may result in permanent exclusion.
Child Safety
All members and visitors must strictly follow Hamayan Shul’s Child Safety Policy. Any form of child abuse, neglect, or inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and may be reported to the relevant authorities. Adults must ensure that children in their care are supervised at all times.
Respect for People
Treat all individuals with dignity, kindness, and respect, regardless of age, gender, background, or beliefs. Disruptive, abusive, discriminatory, or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. Maintain an environment that is welcoming and free from harassment.
Respect for the Shul Environment
Use shul facilities and resources responsibly, ensuring they are left clean, tidy, and undamaged. Follow any guidelines relating to kashrut, ritual objects, and synagogue property. Smoking, vaping, and substance abuse are prohibited on shul grounds.
Commitment to Community Values
Participate in shul life in a way that promotes harmony, inclusion, and safety. Seek to resolve disagreements respectfully and, where necessary, through appropriate channels.
Acknowledgement
By becoming a member, attending services, or participating in any Hamayan Shul activities, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

Our Commitment to Child Safety
Hamayan Shule is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all
children. We believe that every child has the right to feel safe, be respected, and be heard.
We are committed to:
• Protecting children from harm, abuse, and neglect.
• Promoting their wellbeing in all our programs and activities.
• Taking child safety seriously in everything we do.
Who This Policy Applies To
This policy applies to:
• All members of the shul
• Volunteers
• Staff
• Visitors
• Anyone involved in any activity on shule premises or at shule events
Child Safety Rules
Everyone at Hamayan Shule must:
• Treat children with respect at all times
• Never be alone with a child unless absolutely necessary and with permission
• Never use inappropriate language or behaviour around children
• Ensure that any shule-related electronic communication with a minor includes a parent
or guardian
• Report any concerns about a child’s safety immediately
Reporting Concerns
If you see or suspect that a child is at risk of harm or abuse, you must:
1. Report it immediately to the Child Safety Officer or a shule leader.
2. If the child is in immediate danger, call 000.
We take all reports seriously and will respond quickly, fairly, and respectfully.
Consequences for Breaching Child Safety Rules
Any person who:
• Puts a child at risk
• Breaks our child safety rules
• Harms or abuses a child in any way
will be immediately banned from the shule premises and all shule activities. Further legal
action may also be taken, including reporting to the police or other authorities.

Listening to Children
We want children to feel safe and to speak up. We:
• Encourage children to share their feelings and experiences
• Listen seriously and respectfully

Reviewing This Policy
This policy is reviewed every year and after any significant child safety incident. Feedback
from members, children, and families is welcome at any time.
