A Taste of Shabbat
Explore the texts, practices and traditions of Shabbat (the Sabbath), the Jewish day of rest, with a gathering hosted by Museum Director & CEO, Sidra Moshinsky. This intimate, community-focused program invites participants of all backgrounds to slow down and step into the rhythms that have shaped Jewish life for millennia. Delve into the origins of Shabbat through its foundational texts, uncovering the spiritual, cultural, and historical meanings that continue to resonate today. Learn about the rituals that mark the transition from the workweek to a day of rest—lighting candles, blessing wine and bread, and sharing songs. Guided by Sidra’s insights and personal reflections, the gathering will also feature a tasting of traditional Shabbat foods. All are welcome to bring in the week’s end with learning, conversation, and reflection, in an immersive glimpse into a practice that occurs in Jewish homes globally, every Friday night.
A Taste of Shabbat is one of four rotating weekly programs that occur every Friday morning. Experience a behind-the-scenes look into the Museum with our curators, delight in children’s storytime with PJ Library or learn more about Jewish history and culture with a guided tour of our permanent exhibitions.
Generously supported by RJ Dindas Charitable Fund.
