With its irresistible stream of melodies, Gounod’s Faust has long been a favourite in the international world of opera. There are curiosities in the opera's genesis towards the iconic piece that we know today. For example, Valentin’s sublime aria was composed (in English) specifically for the Covent Garden premiere and later translated into French for the Paris Opera House season.
