Liberty Forum #22: LIFE AND DEATH in VICTORIA
About
Join our final Liberty Forum for 2025 for a critical look at the consequences of the Voluntary Assisted Dying Amendment Bill 2025 and its terrible overreach in Victoria. The event will also be an opportunity to celebrate Christmas cheer and the highlights of another great year of live 'big ideas' events. The Voluntary Assisted Dying Amendment Bill 2025, which passed the Lower House 67-14, and goes to the Upper House this week, shatters the original "tough safeguards" by legislating a steep slippery slope.
Key concerns include:
- Allowing medical practitioners (beyond doctors) to initiate discussions about VAD, posing a risk of wrongful death.
- Crushing the conscience of pro-life practitioners by compelling them to provide VAD information.
- Doubling the prognosis eligibility from six to twelve months, moving VAD beyond truly 'end-of-life' care.
- Removing safety checks like the third doctor review for neurodegenerative cases.
Hear from leading voices who stood against this expansion of powers:
- Chris Crewther MP (Member for Mornington, Opposition Whip, Shadow Assistant Minister for Public Transport & Multicultural Affairs) – One of only 8 Liberal MPs to vote NO!
- Dr Rachel Carling (President, Pro Life Victoria, former MLC for Western Metropolitan Region).
- Dr Steve Parnis (Emergency Physician, Former President AMA Victoria).
- Ann-Marie Hermans (MLC, South-Eastern Metropolitan Region, Shadow Assistant Minister for Public Transport)
A light supper will be served.
Come, bring a friend or three, understand and discuss the immediate threat and stand for life!
