DAY ONE
About
DAY ONE of rehearsing your next musical!WHAT: A day to train your rehearsal brain — that muscle that usually dies somewhere between song three and the choreography in song six of Day 1 in a professional musical.
Learn music fast. Learn choreography faster. Adapt fast. Remember faster. And try not to cry while singing an awkward harmony over counterintuitive choreography.
WHO: Chiara Assetta and Damon Wade, who’ve been involved in shows like Mamma Mia, Wicked, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, SIX, Once, Cry-Baby, Grease, and The Dismissal, and are currently working on Pretty Woman. Chiara won the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Choreography in a Musical (Zombie! The Musical), and Damon has been nominated for Best Musical Direction (Zombie! The Musical, City of Angels, Nice Work If You Can Get It). Basically, they know what it takes to survive a musical without losing your mind.
WHY: A singing lesson? Check. A dance class? Check. An acting workshop? Check. A gym class? Sure. A masterclass? Absolutely. But putting all these together outside of a show? Almost never. It’s the classic; you need to be excellent at the “triple” in triple threat to get the show, but you rarely get to execute all three at once unless you’re booked.
COST: $200 for 7 hours of rehearsal-style training.
For comparison: that’s roughly the price of one singing lesson and one dance class except here you also get the mental whiplash of a real rehearsal.
Sharpen your craft for DONE ONE.
