MARINA JAMES is a registered Yoga Therapist and senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Australia, Lifestyle Medicine Therapist, and Counsellor.
Marina has a deep interest and commitment to Integrative Practice – the blending of the wisdom within psychological science and psychotherapeutic supports with Yoga and Meditation philosophy and practice. Her understanding of Wellbeing is grounded in evidence-based theory and research from the West and thousands of years of tradition and practice from the East. As such, Marina creates a innovative therapeutic offering that attends to people’s whole experience of health and living, supported by confidence in evidence-based and evidence-informed therapeutic practices and knowledge.
Marina is interested in supporting women's bodies, health, experiences and lives as they mature through midlife, The Menopause and elderhood. She has particular interest in navigating change, nervous system regulation, managing fatigue, exhaustion and burn out, pain management, dealing with loss and grief, developing positive approaches to aging, and increasing Rest in daily life. She is committed to advocating for the benefits of Rest, providing opportunities for people to reacquaint themselves with Rest, and helping people to incorporate Rest into everyday life.
Marina embraces uplifting narratives and perspectives about The Menopause, female aging and maturity, and elderhood. Through Creating Well Marina offers a women’s response to histories that have minimised women’s Wellbeing. She aims to provide opportunities for compassionate empowerment of midlife and elder women, particularly regarding their Wellbeing. Further, she believes that Rest is an essential part of healthy human living that should be available to everyone, especially women who continue to be socialised to give to others at the expense of their own Wellbeing.
Marina respects that women are on a Journey that is unique to them as they move towards and through their midlife, The Menopause and elderhood. She seeks to honour women’s lived experiences of female maturation and aging, and support women to positively embrace their experiences.
Marina has drawn on her extensive expertise and training to carefully curate Retreats, Courses and Classes to support women through transformational and powerful eras of their lives and provide people with exquisite experiences of Rest. She aims to provide Wellbeing experiences that provide both present support and healing, and knowledge and skills for clients to use in their daily lives to gradually improve their long-term Wellbeing.
Marina's offerings weave yoga, meditation and other contemplative practices with biomedical and psychological science and psychotherapeutic philosophy and concepts. She practices Lifestyle Medicine, whereby she adopts a whole-person, preventative approach to health and wellbeing with a focus on lived experience. She is a trauma-informed practitioner.
Marina firmly believes in a proactive approach, informed by her 20 years of work in mental health and wellbeing including 10 years in public-health, non-clinical mental health. Hence, she views yoga, meditation and mind-body therapies as an integral part of navigating life and supporting wellness across the lifespan.
Marina is a member of the Australasian Society for Lifestyle Medicine and registered with Yoga Australia. She holds degrees in psychology, advanced qualifications in Yoga teaching and Yoga Therapy, and is currently completing a Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
