Agenda: The Menopausal Brain
Reframing Menopause as a Neurological Transition.
Presented by Lauren Dewsbury
Presentation Summary and Key Learning Outcomes
Menopause is not just a hormonal or psychological transition — it is a neurological one, with important implications for cognition, mood, and long-term brain health that mental health and allied health practitioners are uniquely positioned to recognise.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Explain how hormonal changes during the menopause transition influence brain function, cognition, and emotional regulation.
2. Differentiate common menopause-related cognitive and mood changes from clinical red flags that may warrant further assessment or referral.
3. Apply practical, evidence-based strategies and validating language to support women experiencing cognitive and emotional changes during midlife.
Lauren Dewsbury is a cognitive neuroscientist and clinical researcher specialising in brain health across the lifespan, with a particular focus on cognitive and emotional change during the menopause transition. She is currently completing a PhD examining the neurobiological mechanisms linking midlife hormonal change, brain energy metabolism, and long-term cognitive health.
Lauren’s work spans clinical research, prevention-focused health strategies, and high-performance cognitive optimisation. She works with clinicians, leaders, and C-suite executives to translate emerging neuroscience into practical evidence based frameworks that support cognitive resilience, emotional regulation, and sustained performance under pressure.
She regularly presents to professional, clinical, and executive audiences and is passionate about reframing menopause as a neurological transition with important implications for both wellbeing and elite performance.
