Presentation Title: An Overview of Hydrogeology in Indonesia’s Mining EnvironmentPresenter: Alexis Valenza, Principal Groundwater Engineer and Managing Director Valenza Engineering,
Details: 5:30 pm for refreshments, 6pm presentation start for a 7pm finish.
Address: 818 Bourke Street, Docklands – dedicated entrance to the conference (multifunctional) room is around the corner in Merchant St.
Presentation details:
Indonesia’s mining operations span diverse hydrogeological settings shaped by active tectonics, volcanic and sedimentary formations, steep terrain, and intense tropical rainfall. This presentation provides an overview of my personal experience on groundwater and surface water interactions across key mining regions, outlining challenges such as dewatering, recharge variability, and water quality management.
Presenter Bio:
Alexis Valenza, a Chartered Engineer (CPEng Civil & Environmental) and member of AusIMM, holds a Master’s in Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology from the University of Montpellier, France. With 28 years of experience in groundwater engineering, he has worked on complex infrastructure, mining, and environmental projects across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
Specializing in dewatering and groundwater control for mines and infrastructure, Alexis excels in developing groundwater management systems for challenging settings, including geothermal and high-volume water environments. His expertise spans 3D conceptual and groundwater modeling and designing programs to ensure operational safety and environmental sustainability.
In 2011, Alexis founded Valenza Engineering, a Melbourne-based consultancy specializing in groundwater and environmental science, later expanding to
Indonesia with PT VEA in 2019. Known for innovative solutions, he continues to tackle hydrogeological challenges worldwide.
