Algal Bloom Community Forum
About
The toxic algal bloom has devastated our coastline, marine life and local businesses, and the recent Senate Inquiry confirmed serious failures in the State Labor Government’s response. Our community deserves clarity on what went wrong and how South Australia can be better protected in the future. At this forum, Stephen Patterson MP and Senator Andrew McLachlan, who served on the Senate Inquiry, will outline the key findings and discuss the actions needed to restore confidence in how coastal environmental events are managed. They will also discuss the Liberal Party's Save Our Seas plan: a $30 million commitment to restore 50 hectares of new shellfish reefs and a call for the Commonwealth to expand this to 250 hectares in total.
In Government, Stephen helped deliver the $1.2 million shellfish reef off Glenelg North in 2021. The Glenelg shellfish reef is now a successful example of habitat restoration improving water quality and marine life. This large-scale restoration effort is designed to clean our waters, rebuild marine habitats and strengthen resilience against future harmful algal blooms.
Join us to hear how this plan can help protect and restore our coastline for generations to come.
