About
The Youth Concerto Competition is a highlight of the Preston Symphony Orchestra’s season. It commenced in 1988 and has since given many young musicians their first opportunity to rehearse and perform with a full symphony orchestra.The six finalists chosen at auditions in May to participate the finalists’ concert for the 2026 Youth Concerto Competition are:

Concerto for Marimba, Sergei Golovko, 1st & 3rd movements

Violin Concerto in D minor, Jean Sibelius, 1st movement

Clarinet Concerto no, 2 in E flat, Carl Maria von Weber, 1st movement
Derek Wei
Double Bass Concerto no. 2, Giovanni Bottesini, 1st & 2nd movements
Ian Zhou
Piano Concerto in A minor, Edvard Grieg, 1st movement

Online ticket sales cut off is 11.30am on the day of the concert, but tickets can also be purchased at the concert box office from around 2pm if any remain available.
