Understanding Refusal and Resistance in Family Law Matters
About
This training will help participants understand the points of interface between parental conflict and children's experiences.Children who refuse or resist spending time with a parent following separation are a common presentation in family law contexts. Many of these children not only resist contact with a parent but also reject attempts to repair the relationship, often expressing strong and consistent opposition.
The overlap between high-conflict parenting and children’s refusal provides valuable insight into the refuse–resist dynamic, offering a framework for understanding when and how intervention can be most effective.
This presentation focuses on the “how and why” of refuse–resist, helping participants develop a deeper understanding of the psychological and relational mechanisms underpinning these dynamics, as well as the consequences for children caught in ongoing interparental conflict.
