Basic Assessment & Support in Intensive Care (BASIC) Course
The BASIC Assessment and Support in Intensive Care course was initiated by a group of Intensive Care Specialists working in Hong Kong, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. BASIC is a course designed to teach aspects of acute assessment and treating critically ill patients.
The two day course consists of practical, hands-on stations and didactic lectures . It includes modules on ABG interpretation, metabolic problems, resuscitation as well as the following key topics:
Mechanical ventilation
Haemodynamic monitoring
Management of respiratory failure
Management of shock
Management of severe trauma
Included: Course registration, a hard copy of the BASIC textbook, morning tea & beverages, lunch, afternoon tea. Audience: This course is for doctors (PGY-2 and above) who have completed or are planning to complete a critical care rotation in intensive care, emergency care, and/or anaesthetics as residents.
