Swinger Hill - A Mid-century Modern Suburb Heritage Walk (SOLD OUT)
About
Take a walk through an area planned as medium density by the National Capital Development Commission, with building starting in the 1970s. See how the development adapts to the local topography of being on a hill and where it fits with its surrounds. Some of the houses in Barnet Close in Swinger Hill are listed by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects as significant twentieth century architecture, and are on the ACT heritage register. Please note: The walk is approximately 1.5 km but contains some steep sections, stairs, narrow passageways and dirt paths due to the topography of Swinger Hill. A reasonable level of fitness will be required for this walk.
The meeting place is on Butters Drive, near Ainsworth Avenue, and there is on-street parking here.
Heritage Festival event organised by the National Trust (ACT)
