Lighten Up Theatre are excited to present Are You Being Served!
Based on the original BBC tv series join the well known favourites such as Mrs Slocombe, Mr Humphries, Captain Peacock, Miss Brahms, Mr Lucas, Mr Rumbold and Mr Grainger plus others for a night of absolute mayhem and British humour at its best. The Grace Bros staff are preparing the store for a sale of German goods before they depart for a staff holiday in Spain. They survive their stay in the tropics at a one star establishment and their encounters with everything from a Spanish crumpet to randy revolutionaries leaving with everything intact but their modesty! “With its innuendo-laden comedy, penchant for slapstick and panto-type characters, Are You Being Served? has something for everyone.
About Lighten Up Theatre
Lighten Up Theatre was founded at the end of 2023 by Trish Oostendarp. Trish had always been surrounded by community theatre both directing and acting in QLD and WA and after a short break after having her now 11 year old daughter she had a deep desire to re-ignite her passion and so decided she would take a leap of faith and decided to start her own not for profit community theatre group. With simply a burning desire to bring quality uplifting, “feel good” productions to the local community she put an expression of interest out and the response was positively overwhelming! It has shown that the community desperately needed something of this kind. With Trish’s sheer determination and as she likes to call them her theatre family behind her, it allowed her to found Lighten Up Theatre. Since directing the group's very first production of Mystery on the Orient Express, followed by Jungle Fever, and this year their sell out season of STIFF, the group has grown in both members and audience. The shows have been a great success with hugely positive reviews. The main comment received is always when is your next one?
Trish's wish for her audiences is that they will leave a performance with a stomach sore from laughing, an overload of feel-good endorphins and a chance to forget any worries if for only for a few hours. And once that is achieved 'Then my job is done' she quotes.
