A pantomime (or “panto”) is a fun, family-friendly stage show that mixes comedy, music, dance, and audience participation. Based on well-known fairy tales or stories, pantomimes feature larger-than-life characters, colourful costumes, and plenty of jokes for both kids and adults. Traditions such as the Dame (a comedic man in a dress), call-and-response moments (“He’s behind you!”), and slapstick routines make pantomime a lively, interactive theatre experience where the audience is part of the action.In Alice In Wonderland, young Alice lives in a strict orphanage (“the Home for Lost & Unwanted Girls”), where she feels trapped and lonely. She owns a special magical watch, which becomes the target of the sinister Queen of Hearts, who will stop at nothing to possess it. The Queen sends Jack, the humble gardener, on a mission to find Alice — but things don’t go as planned.
Alice follows the White Rabbit down a rabbit hole into the bizarre world of Wonderland, where she meets iconic characters — the Mad Hatter, Dormouse, Cheshire Cat, Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum — and makes unexpected allies. As the Queen’s threat grows, Alice and Jack must work together with Wonderland’s residents to overthrow her. Ultimately, Alice’s courage, imagination, and her connection to Jack help her to restore peace and banish the Queen, leading to a joyful “happily ever after.”
At Mt Eliza Communuty Pantomime we endeavour to make our audition room a welcoming and inclusive space. We understand that auditions can feel intimidating, but please know that we are not here to judge you, we are simply looking to see where each person might fit best within the show.
During your audition, you’ll be asked to read from a short excerpt of the script in the character/s of your choosing. We may invite you to read for additional characters if we feel you might suit them. You will also be asked to sing a song.
To help you feel as comfortable as possible, you may choose the order in which you complete the reading and singing components. Our goal is to support you, encourage you, and help you show your best self. We welcome performers aged 18+ of all experience levels and backgrounds.
