EFT in Action: Working with Interruptions
The AIEFT is excited to be hosting ‘Emotion Focused Therapy in Action’, a workshop series run by Barry Strmelj. These workshops are suitable for practitioners with a background in EFT training (at least EFT Level 1) and who utilise, or are looking to incorporate EFT into their work with clients.
Emotion blocks and interruptions occur regularly during therapy and represent the client’s self-protective acts of blocking, restricting and interrupting their emotional experiencing. If left unattended they are likely to impact the focus and depth of therapy. This workshop will focuses on identifying the presence of emotional blocks and interruptions and deciding when it might be important to focus on them for specific intervention. A staged approach will be introduced, starting with empathic attunement and exploration to enhance the client's awareness of the interruption, how the interruption occurs, and the purpose and the negative impact of the interruption. Once a client wants to allow their emotion, the primary intervention 'chairwork for interruptions' can be introduced. This includes the block being attended to and symbolized and, as opposition to unblocked emotion reduces, the previously blocked emotion being allowed and experienced.
