South Asian Dance Workshops
About
Years 3 to 12These 1-day workshops are open to NSW public school students who identify as South Asian, or students of South Asian heritage. This includes students with backgrounds from Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and other countries and cultural identities of the region.
These workshops are suitable for both experienced and non-experienced dancers. Taught by South Asian dance tutors in collaboration with the NSW Department of Education’s Arts Unit, the workshops encourage creativity, confidence, and cultural connection through a vibrant blend of traditional and contemporary South Asian dance forms. Dance styles explored include Bollywood dancing and folk styles, such as Khatak, Bhangra and more.
This initiative builds on the Arts Unit’s ongoing commitment to culturally responsive programs, creating opportunities for students to engage in authentic artistic expression and celebrate their heritage through dance.
