Ming Qi - ELISION at the University of Western Australia
About
ELISION launches its 40th anniversary year with a lightning tour across three states, presenting music that forges connections between generations of composers—both here and abroad. How do the ghosts of the past take shape in the present? This question resonates through the oboe and flute duo of Australian radical John Rodgers, whose Amor literally couples the flute and oboe, rendering the voices and torment of lovers into an aural capture of Dante’s Inferno. Liza Lim’s Ghosts make form uses ouija board techniques upon the keyboard of the piano to conjure new relationships with the cello. The tour also unveils world premieres of a new work from Perth composer Victor Arul, and Liza Lim’s Magnificat written for the brilliance of percussionist Peter Neville. ELISION brings to this programme its trademark blend of intensity, ferocity and quiet stillness. ELISION is renowned for the prodigious virtuosity and vitality of its musicians, possessing a rare authority for tackling complex and challenging musical aesthetics. This performance is made possible by the generous support of the Forrest Research Foundation.
