Carer Reference Group – Expressions of Interest (SOLD OUT)
About
FKCANT is seeking expressions of interest from Foster and Kinship Carers to join the newly established Carer Reference Group. This group will support stronger, more consistent partnerships between carers and the Department of Children and Families (DCF), and help guide improvements to the Northern Territory’s foster care system.Drawing on the findings of last year’s Carer Engagement Survey and feedback sessions, carers will work alongside DCF and FKCANT leadership to identify priorities, review recommendations, and help plan practical, positive changes.
These areas include:
• Strengthening communication and collaboration between carers and workers
• Improving consistency, responsiveness and shared decision-making
• Supporting carer retention by addressing barriers raised in the survey and workshops
• Reviewing and informing policy, process and practice improvements
• Ensuring carers’ voices shape how the system grows and adapts
• Helping design changes that improve support, training, and the care team experience for children and carers
The survey and workshops highlighted clear themes — carers want better communication, more inclusive decision-making, clearer information sharing, improved support processes and stronger relationships with caseworkers. The Carer Reference Group will help turn these findings into real, actionable change.
