This PD explores toileting through the lens of a Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) profile, recognising autonomy, nervous system safety, sensory processing, and demand sensitivity as central considerations.

Occupational therapists will learn how traditional toileting approaches can inadvertently increase distress and resistance, and how to support toileting skill development using respectful, low-demand, relationship-based strategies that prioritise safety, dignity, and trust.
