Berta Brozgul|Sonata no.2:Schumann Chopin Granados Prokofiev
A program featuring the second piano sonatas of Frédéric Chopin and Sergei Prokofiev, each of which are characterised by drama and pathos, lightness and darkness, and brutality and playfulness. They are presented alongside Enrique Granados' virtuosic showpiece Allegro di Concierto and Robert Schumann’s beguiling Arabesque in C major.
A graduate of the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, the South African born Australian pianist Berta Brozgul has performed widely across Australia as a soloist and chamber musician. Praised for her "masterful" and "strongly individual" playing (John Lill CBE), she has performed with several of Australia's major symphony orchestras including the Tasmanian and Queensland Symphony Orchestras. A major prize winner in several national competitions, she made her debut as a soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2023, performing Bartok's third piano concerto, conducted by Benjamin Northey.
