This is a homeschool group booking for a day at the Adelaide Writer's Week- Secondary Schools Day. This event is open for secondary students (ages 11/12+ years) and accompanying adults.Secondary students and their educators are invited to gather with award-winning authors, poets, and those in the industry, to explore the delicate threads of literature.
Together, they uncover the quiet truths of storytelling, inviting students to reimagine perspectives and embrace their own literary journeys. Students will hear from some of Australia’s most inspiring authors, poets, and literary voices – all dedicated to encouraging a new generation of passionate readers and writers.
Each ticket includes a seat for ALL THREE of the below sessions.
Session 1 - 11am: 'Plot Twist in Progress'
'Join award-winning author Tristan Bancks for an engaging session! Discover how he finds story ideas, builds vivid characters, and balances instinct with craft. Perfect for aspiring young writers, the session offers insights into Tristan’s creative process – from research to editing.
Author of Two Wolves, Detention, Cop & Robber, and CBCA Book of the Year Scar Town, Tristan’s books have won major awards and are loved by readers nationwide.'
Session 2 - 12pm: 'Identity X Poetry'
'Award-winning poet and author Solli Raphael understands the complex journey of identity that young people face. In this interactive session, Solli shares how poetry can be a powerful tool to support wellbeing, creativity and self-discovery.
Drawing from his acclaimed trilogy Limelight, Spotlight and Starlight, he unpacks themes of identity, belonging and voice.
Students will be able to untangle what’s going on inside and make sense of how they see themselves and how they want to be seen. Through reflection and expression, they’ll be encouraged to explore what makes them them.'
Session 3 - 1pm: 'I Low-key Love Literature, Now What?'
'South Australian authors Hannah Kent and Margot McGovern first met as teenagers while studying creative writing, forming a friendship that has supported their journeys through the writing world. They’ll reflect on how creative friendships and strong support networks can play a powerful role in sustaining an artistic life.
Drawing from their own experiences as literary all-rounders, Hannah and Margot will share insights with students about the many paths a love of literature can unlock beyond the school gates.'
Arrive at 10:30am, garden closes at 2:15pm. Book signings will be available in-between sessions.
Students are welcome to attend without an accompanying parent, however please arrange prior for an attending adult to supervise your young person for the day.
