Having a Will is very important. It ensures the people who matter most in your life are taken care of. Without a Will, your estate is distributed according to a legal formula. This might mean your assets don’t end up being distributed according to your wishes.

We would be grateful if you would please consider leaving a financial Gift (bequest/legacy) in your Will to The Salvation Army to help us support those most in need in our community. Thank you.

FAQs:

Simple Wills - How does it work?

Honoured Friend Solicitors assist the community by donating their time to help people prepare a simple Will.  A simple Will, for example, is one that leaves the person’s entire estate to their spouse or to their children, equally, without a trust and can include one or more charities. The solicitor will be able to advise whether your Will is simple, and if not, they may not proceed or they may advise that you will need to pay an additional cost to have your Will written.

  • Wills become more complicated when children are excluded, previous marriages, includes an extensive list of specified gifts, trusts, business assets, overseas assets, self managed superannuation or repeated amendments to the Will prior to signing.

What if I need other documentation such as an Enduring Power of Attorney?

Your simple Will appointment does not include any other documentation, however our supporting Solicitors are able to assist and discuss fees and options with you.  It is then at your discretion if you choose to proceed.

Do I need to bring ID with me?

Yes, please bring proof of identification.

Do I have to leave a gift (bequest) to The Salvation Army?

There is no obligation to leave a gift to The Salvation Army in your Will, however we would greatly appreciate you giving this consideration to enable us to support children, adults and families experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, poverty and addiction. After looking after your family, leaving even a small percentage of your Estate can make such a difference to those in need in our community, and you can nominate that your gift be applied specifically to The Salvation Army in Western Australia.

Please see how your kindness can live on when you leave a gift to the Salvation Army.

What is the Honoured Friend Program?

By leaving a Gift in your Will to The Salvation Army you will be joining a group of like-minded individuals who, like yourself, are committed to ensuring that the kindness and compassion you have lived by will go on helping others now and in the future.

When you let us know that you have included The Salvation Army in your Will, we like to honour your kindness and generosity. You will be welcomed as an Honoured Friend and if you wish, you will receive invitations to special functions, tours and access to many of the programs we run for the Australian community.

Thank you for supporting the work of The Salvation Army and giving Hope where its need most.
