Rehearsal Fees - VC Mozart's Great Mass in C Minor
Join us for Mozart's Grand Mass in C Minor
Dear Victoria Chorale Members,
We return to St Paul's Cathedral on Saturday 16 May for our first concert for 2026 - Mozart's Grand Mass in C Minor. A powerful expression of Mozart's genius and his engagement with the works of Bach and Handel, the Mass is a significant departure from his earlier church music.
Described as ‘Great’ because of its sheer size, the Mass represents Mozart at his most daring and innovative. Soaring above the conventions of his time, he crafted a work of breathtaking scope that rivals Bach's B minor Mass in its architectural grandeur and Handel's Messiah in its dramatic power. Considered his most personal sacred work, it was composed not out of economic necessity but out of a deeply-held conviction: a promise to his new wife Constanze, who herself sang in an early performance. It will be a challenging and thrilling work to learn and perform!
The concert will be on Saturday 16 May 2026 at 5pm, St Paul's Cathedral Cnr Flnders and Swanston Streets, Melbourne (Warm-up call time TBA).
Rehearsals are at Christ Church, 2 Denham Street, Hawthorn. Parking is available in Denham Street and Wood Street.
