To celebrate Walter Burley Griffin's sesquicentenary in 2026, the Walter Burley Griffin Society in collaboration with Canberra Modern has organised the following tour and talks:Friday 6 March
2.00pm – 3.00pm
A special viewing of Griffin material held at National Library of Australia, in the Eric Milton Nicholls Collection, including the watercolours on silk and botanical catalogues prepared by Marion Mahony Griffin, and images of Café Australia, Melbourne. An illustrated curator talk will highlight these items.
Saturday 7 March
9.10am – 4.00pm
Coach tour of Griffins’ Canberra. Departing at 9.30am from the National Archives of Australia’s rear carpark to visit:
• Surveyors Hut & camp site, State Circle
• Federation Mall, Capital Hill
• Yarralumla Incinerator, Royal Canberra Golf Club
• Cork Oak Plantation, National Arboretum of Australia for picnic lunch (box lunch included in ticket price)
• General Bridges Grave, Royal Military College, Duntroon
• Mount Ainslie Lookout
• National Capital Exhibition, Regatta Point
Return to National Archives of Australia carpark at 4pm
Sunday 8 March
10.30am
Visit the the National Archives of Australia (NAA) for an illustrated talk by former Senior Conservator, Ian Batterham (TBC).
Optional lunch at the NAA’s Cafe Constitution, at own expense.
