About
The History of Embroidery Presented by SUSAN KAY - WILLIAMSThis richly illustrated lecture traces the remarkable history of English embroidery across a thousand years. Beginning with early medieval examples from the 10th century, it explores the exceptional craftsmanship of Opus Anglicanum, the splendour of Tudor court embroidery, and the global influences of India and China in the seventeenth century. The story continues through silk shading, Berlin wool work, and the Arts and Crafts movement, before reaching influential twentieth-century artists and contemporary practitioners. Presented by Susan Kay-Williams, former Chief Executive of the Royal School of Needlework, this lecture reveals how embroidery has continually evolved while retaining its essential character.
