CSD Professional Development Feburary 2026
About
Returning Back to the Core Guided by Nicole Rotaru RSMThis Professional Development session invites participants to return to the heart of the ministry of spiritual direction through the practice of deep, trauma-informed listening, particularly in the context of grief and loss. The session will begin with a case study, which will serve as a shared point of reflection. From this, participants will be invited into a facilitated conversation that explores what is arising in the sacred space, both within the person being accompanied and within ourselves as listeners. Through reflective practice and shared inquiry, this session offers an opportunity to reconnect with the core of spiritual direction, holding space with care, cultivating safety, and remaining present without fixing. It supports the development of listening practices that honour grief, foster resilience, and allow hope to emerge gently within individuals and communities.
Nicole Rotaru RSM is a Sister of Mercy in Australia with extensive experience in trauma-informed practice, grief support, and compassionate accompaniment of individuals and communities experiencing profound loss. Her background spans education, counselling, and community-based ministry, with a strong focus on supporting those impacted by complex trauma, displacement, violence, and cumulative grief. Nicole brings a reflective, grounded approach to professional development, integrating psychological insights, spiritual wisdom, and lived experience. Her facilitation invites participants to deepen their understanding of trauma and grief, explore their personal and professional responses, and develop practices that foster safety, resilience, and hope within their workplaces and communities.
