Description:
This workshop will support Allied Health Practitioners to explore ways of developing their careers without compromising their personal values, wellbeing, or individual needs. Delegates will participate in guided self-reflection activities designed to help them more holistically identify their strengths, values, and professional priorities. Key concepts explored include the impact of practitioners’ values and intersectional identities in the workplace, alongside practical strategies for effective professional communication with key stakeholders—ranging from managers and clients to participants, patients, and funding bodies. The workshop will also introduce tangible approaches to career progression, including accessible pathways into research. The session will conclude with a clinician panel and a live Q&A with panelists from the industry, offering practical insights into building a profile, program design, navigating diverse funding stream, and strategies for a sustainable career.
Workshop Objectives:
1. Delegates will engage in a values-based exercise to clearly identify what is currently driving their practice in the field
2. Delegates will gain a broader understanding of the impact of ones intersectional identity on their own approaches to career development and communication
3. Delegates will develop adaptable professional communication skills necessary for the liaison with key stakeholders in different positions of power (e.g. patients, colleagues, managers, business partners, etc)
4. Delegates will be introduced to accessible approaches for career development (e.g. formalised research, quality improvement studies, applying for grants/funding of projects, etc)
5. Delegates will develop resources for maintaining a healthy work/life balance that is suitable for their unique lifestyle
