Sankranti, a major pan-Indian solar harvest festival, is known by many names, including Pongal (Tamil Nadu), Uttarayan (Gujarat), Magh Bihu/Bhogali Bihu (Assam), Lohri/Maghi (Punjab/North India), Poush Sankranti (West Bengal), Makara Sankramana (Karnataka), Pedda Panduga/Sankranti (Andhra Pradesh/Telangana), and Khichdi (UP/Bihar). These diverse names reflect regional traditions, but share themes of welcoming spring, celebrating the harvest, and honoring the Sun God.Location
