Atomic: The Songs of Blondie
Atomic: The Songs of Blondie returns to George Lane, St Kilda on Friday 13 February, with doors opening at 7:00pm. The performance revisits the music and cultural impact of Blondie, tracing the band’s evolution from New York’s underground club scene to their emergence as one of the most influential acts of the late 20th century.
Rather than focusing solely on chart successes, the set draws from across Blondie’s catalogue, pairing well-known singles with deeper cuts that reflect the band’s stylistic range and experimentation. The approach highlights the tension between punk, pop, new wave, and disco that defined Blondie’s sound and set them apart from their contemporaries.
The lineup is led by vocalist Anthea Palmer, joined by Stu Thomas (The Stu Thomas Paradox, Dave Graney & The MistLY, Kim Salmon & The Surrealists), Mike Dupp (The Methinks, The Futurists), Victor Stranges (The Methinks, The Futurists), and Garry Allen (Crossbones Boogie, Kahuna Daddies).
The band last appeared at George Lane to a sold-out room, with tickets disappearing in advance. Set within the venue’s intimate surrounds, this show offers an opportunity to hear Blondie’s material presented with a focus on detail, dynamics, and historical context, while retaining the urgency and rock ’n’ roll immediacy that made the songs endure…. and a time to dance!
