Overland to Darwin 1926

In May 1926 Captain Edward Bagot embarked on the first passenger trip to from Adelaide to Darwin and back. Travelling in two Studebaker cars Bagot led twelve passengers a distance of 4,500 miles in just over five weeks. Mr Clarence Judd, a keen amateur filmmaker documented the effort and endurance of this rigorous journey.To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of this expedition, Brenten Whittenbury, grandson of filmmaker Clarence Judd and two companions are planning on re-tracing the exact route in two near identical vehicles departing Adelaide on 18 May 2026
Brenton Whittenbury will be attending the screening and talking about the project.
This rare film has been reworked by Christo Reid (Innaminicka Films) with the addition of simple atmospheric sound and an ambient music score by two acclaimed South Australian musicians, Gabriella Smart, an internationally recognised and award winning pianist and Fabian Hevia, a leading Australian jazz percussionist.
There will also be a public screening of the film as part of History Month at the Beltana Community Hall on Wed 20 May.
