While learning the basics through to more advanced techniques you will develop the skills to make beautifully finished artworks.The first part of the course will be focused on collage. You will learn pasting and cutting techniques, how to use resources and the fundamentals of design.
The second part of the course is focused on learning basic Gelli printing techniques and incorporating these with collage to make mixed media artwork. You will gain knowledge of the use of materials including Gelli plates, brayers, papers, paints, templates and mediums.
Both collage and Gelli printing is fun and addictive and you will want to make more and more.
Materials List:
For collage: Sharp scissors, substrate (acrylic or watercolour paper, A4 or A3 pad, around 400 gsm needs to be sturdy), paper (A4 copy paper or similar any quality), brush for pasting, small jar, rags, old credit card or similar, cutting blade, cutting board, tweezers, sketchbook, magazines/papers of choice (also supplied).
For Gelli-print: Gelli plate (recommend GELPress any size), acrylic paint (at least five colours red, blue yellow, white, black/raw umber (Derivan Matisse Flow recommended but whatever you have available), soft brayer (any size according to size of Gelli plate), large drawing paper or butchers paper for excess paint (quality and use will be discussed in class) templates foliage etc will be supplies but if you have a favourite bring it along.
Some materials will be supplied. Don’t worry if you don’t have all that is recommended. If you don’t have a Gelli plate and not sure what to get, wait until classes begin.
