About

Make your wardrobe sustainable, one stitch at a time

Since March 2023, Transition Bondi has been running monthly Mend & Remake workshops. These sessions are a practical, welcoming space where people come together to reduce textile waste, learn skills, and support each other to repair and rework clothing.

Join us at Waverley Library for a hands-on workshop where all skill levels are welcome. Whether you are new to mending or already confident with a sewing machine, you will be supported to repair, alter, or creatively upcycle garments you already own.

We provide sewing machines, tools, and basic equipment. You bring the clothes you want to mend or remake.

What to expect

  • Supportive, skills-based learning in clothing repair and creative upcycling

  • Help from experienced sewists in a relaxed, friendly setting

  • A community focused on reducing fashion waste and sharing knowledge

  • Small group sessions, limited to 15 participants, for personalised support

Who you will learn with

Lise and Sarah are long-term members of Transition Bondi and co-facilitate the workshops. Lise holds qualifications in visual arts, fashion, and sustainability. Sarah is a self-taught sewer and sustainable fashion advocate. Together, they bring craft, creativity, and a strong commitment to waste reduction, social justice, and ethical fashion. They guide participants in hands-on repair, upcycling, and creative problem-solving, helping everyone extend the life of their clothing in fun and inventive ways.

Support Mend & Remake

Mend & Remake is a free, community-run program. Donations help cover the real costs of running the workshops, including sewing machine maintenance, tools, materials, and facilitation.

Ways to support the program:

  • Donate funds: You will have the option to make a cash donation when registering for this event. Any amount helps keep the workshops running and accessible.

  • Donate in kind: We accept fabric, sewing tools, notions, machines, and other useful materials.

  • Volunteer: We welcome beginner and advanced sewists, event organisers, social media supporters, and anyone interested in helping with the coordination and management of the program.

If you would like to volunteer or donate in kind, please contact info@transitionbondi.org.

Supported by Waverley Council’s Our Local Community Fund.
