Yoga and Indian Martial Dance WorkshopChhau is a traditional tribal martial dance from eastern India.
Blending yoga, dance, and martial arts, it is a vibrant and athletic art form that channels raw, primal energy through fluid, dynamic movement. The workshop invites participants to explore new movement possibilities.
This workshop includes:
* Yoga and body conditioning to prepare and awaken the body
* Sword dance movements and foundational Chhau steps
* The Dance of Shiva (Shiva Tandava) — exploring both the philosophy of Shiva’s cosmic dance and its embodied expression through movement
*Meditation on the heart vibration
What to bring: Water • Towel • Comfortable clothes for movement
No prior experience is required to attend this workshop. Everyone is welcome to work at their own pace and capacity.
About the Facilitator: Yogeshwari Giri (Yuki Taniguchi) performs the Shiva Tandava of Mayurbhanj Chhau, a martial art dance from East India. She trained in Odisha under Padmashri Dr. Ileana Citaristi and Guru Trilochan Mohanta, two eminent exponents of this form. She has also trained in Kalaripayattu, the traditional martial art of India, under Master Biju Nair in Brisbane, Australia. The spiritual name, Yogeshwari Giri, was bestowed upon her by Shivraj Giri at the Kumbha Mela in Haridwar.
