Western Arts Theatre invites you to audition for our upcoming junior show Honk! JR.Honk! JR is a heart-warming and hilarious musical retelling of The Ugly Duckling, bursting with energy, humour and an uplifting message about acceptance, kindness and celebrating what makes us different.
The story follows Ugly, a young duckling who doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the flock. From the moment he hatches, Ugly is teased and rejected simply for being different. Feeling unwanted and alone, he sets off on a journey of self-discovery beyond the farmyard. Along the way, Ugly encounters a vibrant and memorable cast of characters — from sneaky cats and bossy geese to anxious bullfrogs and graceful, kind-hearted swans — each helping to shape his understanding of the world and his place in it.
Through moments of humour, adventure and heartfelt friendship, Ugly learns to persevere, embrace who he truly is and discover that being different can actually be his greatest strength.
With catchy songs, playful characters and a strong ensemble focus, Honk! JR offers fantastic opportunities for performers of all experience levels. It is a joyful celebration of individuality, resilience and belonging, making it the perfect feel-good production for young performers and family audiences alike.
