About
Good governance is not about ticking boxes. It is about clarity, accountability, and confident decision-making when issues are complex and pressures collide.This practical workshop introduces participants to the realities and contradictions of good governance, where organisations may be fully compliant yet still struggle to manage ethical tension, influence, legitimacy, and risk. It explores why compliance alone is often insufficient to deal with real governance challenges. Using realistic scenarios drawn from volunteer-run and member-based organisations, the session examines issues such as financial pressure, member influence, conflicts of interest, and the boundary between strategy and operations.
The workshop is suited to committee members, board directors, managers and CEOs, volunteers, and anyone seeking to build a more effective, transparent, and resilient organisation.
Across the session, attendees will explore common governance pitfalls, learn how to distinguish governance from management, and understand how unclear roles, informal authority, and stakeholder pressure can create risk. Through guided discussion and simple diagnostic tools, participants will walk away with a clearer picture of what good governance looks like in practice — and how to strengthen it in their own organisation.
