Kathak Masterclasses with Guru Rani Khanam - Melbourne

Melbourne is honoured to welcome guest artist Guru Rani Khanam, renowned Lucknow Gharana Kathak exponent, for exclusive masterclasses for intermediate and senior dancers with personalised attention.The 3 specially curated workshops (over 6 hours total) offer dancers the opportunity to immerse deeply in classical Kathak, exploring traditional Nritya repertoire, alongside creative and expressive elements unique to Guru Rani Khanam’s Mehfil and Sufi dance productions. A unique choreographic composition will be taught exclusive to her distinctive kathak style.
Participants will be prepared for a performance opportunity at a showcase hosted by Infinity Kathak on 7 February 2026. This will be at the Clayton Theatrette at 7:15pm. Students will need to purchase a separate ticket to attend the concert.
Classes are facilitated by Dr Helena Joshi, senior Kathak dancer, disciple of Guru Prerana Deshpande, and Founder of Infinity Kathak, to foster collaboration and community among Melbourne’s Kathak dancers.

• 6 Feb | 5–7pm (performance rehearsal)
📍 Venue: The Space Dance & Arts Centre, Prahran
Please note that these workshops are aimed at intermediate and senior dancers with more than 4 years of classical kathak training and learnt at least 2 different taals.
