Scripture unbound: A midrashic approach

Join us in exploring ways of creatively retelling stories, based on the facts we know, and imaginatively filling out those areas about which there is no record.Together we will learn about and apply a midrashic approach to release silences in Scripture. We will meet every two weeks and each session will include some input and small groups where we are invited to share our ingenuity and creative inventiveness about the space in texts, the back story of unnamed participant in a story or the untold consequences of actions.
Engaging in this manner enables transformative encounters with God, and is a liberating process to share in a small community.
Midrash' is a way of reading the Bible with question marks, not with exclamation marks. It gives us permission to chase our niggles in scripture, and dive deep into the silences in events and conversations. WE do this by writing a Midrash - which is a Jewish hermeneutic method. What about a conversation with Peter's wife?? What did she think about him upping and leaving... was she invited? Did they discuss it all? What are the conversations like between Peter's kids and him? And what was Peter's wife's name, anyway?
These are just an example of the marvelous explorations and adventures we go on, in the world of Midrash. Please join us, and let scripture come alive again for you.
The workshops will be facilitated by Sally Longley and Kathy Cave.
You need to register for all three sessions. The cost for the sessions is $180.
