About
The Perform Vertical Rescue skills course is a full weekend course covering the basic skills required to perform self-rescue and rescue of a conscious person during single pitch vertical activities.
On this course you will learn single rope techniques to:
- Escape a belay system and transfer load to anchor.
- Raise and Lower a conscious person.
- Construct simple mechanical advantage systems.
- Ascend and descend fixed ropes.
- Change between rope systems whilst suspended.
- Bypass knots.
- Adjust rope systems for rescue and to avoid hazards to system.
- Identify and manage hazards to self, rescue and others.
- Maintain own and other safety during rescue operation.
PREREQUISITES:
Completed at least one of the following on natural surfaces:
Learn to Lead Climb (Trained Participant),
OR Top Rope Trained Participant
OR Abseil Trained Participant
OR Caving 'Establish Ropes and Ladders'.
AND
- Proficient at constructing and equalising anchors on natural surfaces, repelling and belaying.
- Be physically fit, able to negotiate steep and vertical terrain and carry equipment.
- Can Tie a Munter hitch on a carabiner, Mule and Overhand knot in sequence.
- Completed the Abseiling Skills e-learning before attendance.
