A Tale of Two Cities
Long-run social and economic mobility in Australia
Join Professors Hamish Maxwell Stewart and Martin Shanahan as they discuss the challenges and insights surrounding their nationally funded project ‘A Tale of Two Cities’.
The project, which builds on years of research by Professor Maxwell-Stewart on Tasmanian population records, looks to compare the life courses of settler generations in Hobart and Adelaide in the 19th century. The presenters will share some of the background to the project, things already learned about the Tasmanian settler population, and discuss some of the challenges involved in compiling and linking large data sets from the 19th century.
