A Comedy of Tenors Auditions (SOLD OUT)
Together with Director Kerrin White, Therry Theatre are thrilled to announce auditions for A Comedy of Tenors, our third show for 2026.
About A Comedy of Tenors
One hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with screaming fans. What could possibly go wrong? It's 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century -- as long as producer Henry Saunders can keep Italian superstar Tito Merelli and his hot-blooded wife Maria from causing runaway chaos. Prepare for an uproarious ride, full of mistaken identities, bedroom hijinks, and madcap delight.
Roles available:
HENRY SAUNDERS (40s-60s – American accent) is a highly-strung opera producer. Saunders is constantly juggling the tempers, tantrums and egos of his stars. He means well, despite his bluster, and is increasingly frustrated with the chaos unfolding around him.
MAX GARBER (30s-40s – American accent) is Saunders’ charming though slightly naïve assistant. He is often caught in the whirlwind that surrounds the opera world and is a somewhat bumbling foil for the more temperamental characters. His pregnant wife is due any day which only adds to his anxiety.
MARIA MERELLI (40s-50s – Italian accent) is the glamourous and passionate wife of the famous tenor Tito Merelli. Maria's volatile temperament and sharp tongue fuel many of the play’s comic misunderstandings. Maria’s love for Tito is undeniable as is her determination to keep him on the straight and narrow.
TITO MERELLI (40s-50s – Italian accent)* is a world-famous Italian opera tenor whose talent is matched only by his ego and sexual appetite. Charismatic, passionate, and dramatic both on and off the stage, Tito thrives on attention. While his charm makes him irresistible, his impulsiveness often lands him in hot water. Tito’s larger-than-life personality drives much of the comedy.
BEPPO (40s-50s – Italian accent)* is a hotel bellhop and talented amateur tenor. Desperate to be part of the glitzy opera world, he idolises the great singers and leaps at any chance to prove himself onstage… and in the bedroom. He also happens to be the spitting image of Tito Merelli!
MIMI MERELLI (20s – American accent) is the daughter of Maria & Tito Merelli. She is determined to make it in Hollywood and even scores a small role in a major movie. She is also madly in love with Carlo Nucci, which she is desperate to hide from her strict father. She spends most of the play trying to be one step ahead of disaster – not always successfully!
CARLO NUCCI (20s – American accent) is an earnest young Italian opera singer with a romantic soul. Deeply in love with Mimi, he is sincere and idealistic until he becomes embroiled in the Merellis’ drama.
TATIANA RACÓN (40s-50s – Russian accent) is a fiery Russian opera singer and former lover of Tito Merelli. Racón is beautiful, glamourous and sexually rapacious with an eye for both Tito and Beppo. She is the living embodiment of a “Diva”.
