Drawing an audience of 224,000 visitors in its first year and pausing only during the two world wars, it has become one of the world’s most influential contemporary art exhibitions, inspiring hundreds of biennales worldwide. Today, more than 40 countries participate through their national pavilions.Charlie Hall explores the origins, evolution and lasting influence of the Venice Biennale over its 130-year history. Based in London and Italy, Charlie is a highly regarded arts educator, lecturer and tour leader. He is Director of the John Hall Venice Course and has worked extensively with leading cultural and educational institutions.
